This programme will run from May to July two mornings a week at the Kilmacthomas Business Training Centre, Union Road, Kilmacthomas.

Modules to be offered:
FETAC Level 5 Organic Food Crops
FETAC Level 4 Plant Care and Maintenance

The participants will gain the following practical skills and knowledge:

  • be capable of preparing and cultivating a site suitable to organic food crop production
  • have acquired skills in propagation, cultivation and harvesting of organic fruit and vegetable crops
  • have acquired the skills and knowledge required for the routine management of organic protected crops
  • have acquired the knowledge and skills required to be involved in the siting and construction of poly-tunnels
  • appreciate the nutritional requirements of plants
  • be able to carry out a range of practical tasks in horticulture
  • develop safe working practices
  • identify a range of plants.

Eligibility: This course is run under the BTEI scheme. Free tuition is available for those with less than leaving certificate education or who are in receipt of social welfare or hold a current medical card. For those who do not qualify for free tuition a fee will apply.

Entry Requirements: There are no specific entry requirements for this course.

Certification: FETAC Level 5 Horticulture
