Cathy Callanan is the School Completion Programme (SCP) Coordinator. The SCP is responsible for identifying and tracking potential early school leavers, then implementing any supports seen as necessary to change this course of action. Prevention rather than cure is the long term goal. Students may be potential early school leavers due to many factors. These range from: bullying, poor self esteem and learning difficulties, to the more obvious of; poor social supports, negative home environment, involvement in drug/alcohol/crime. The kind of assistance provided depends on the needs of students. The supports vary from 1:1 mentoring, retracking behaviour, behaviour modification programmes, personal development, counselling, art therapy, providing lunches, homework clubs and breakfast clubs, after school programme for infants, parental support, summer programme, transportation etc, The SCP is a year round programme and offers supports for the students 9am-5pm Monday - Friday and through the school holidays. The Programme works in co-operation with many other relevant agencies such as: Home School Community Liaison, Barnardos, St. Vincent de Paul, Social Workers, Pathways, Education Welfare Officer, Drug information, Dungarvan Advanced Youth (D.A.Y.)
